Telemark Tours and Alpine: Off-piste skiing courses 2

Off-piste Adventure weeks:
Andermatt: Swiss off-piste heaven!
Celer (Pyrenees): for Spanish charm and challenge
Obergurgl (Austria): off-piste skiing and day tours over Easter
Tignes (France): an orgy of spring snow!
Chile: the ski road-trip of a lifetime!

Off-piste Adventure weeks include an exiting and challenging mix of coaching on- and off-piste, skiing long off-piste itineraries and day or part-day tours. The exact mix varies from week to week as each venue has its own character with different goals; all weeks will use uplift as much as convenient/appropriate to our plans and all participants will need full safety gear and climbing skins. Full details in the Trip Dossiers.

SWITZERLAND – Andermatt (OA)

One of the Alps' best centres for limitless Telemark and Alpine Freeride off-piste skiing

LEVELS: 4 – 5
Andermatt is right at the hub of the Swiss Alps with a great snow record, easy access from airports and a delightful ‘small town’ feel.
From the top of the ski area, at the Gemstock, there is access to five valleys of off-piste or freeride ski runs, all with 1600 m of vertical to return to the village.
This week is best for those already confident away from the piste and are looking for more and greater challenges and to hone their off-piste skills and technique.
Expect untouched powder snow, dramatic scenery, all sorts of terrain and enjoy one of the best off-piste areas anywhere!
5 days of coaching and leadership; ski coaching sessions will then continue to include long off-piste runs and eventually full day excursions involving some skinning; 1 free day.
We will also ski at Oberalp and the other neighbouring areas accessible by train – all included in the ski pass!

SPAIN – Celer (OA)

Off-piste challenge amidst the dramatic and little-known landscapes of the Central Pyrenees.

LEVELS: 3+ to 5
Celer is a small and friendly base just south of the Pic d’Aneto, at 3404 m the highest peak in the Pyrenees.
Very efficient uplift and not many people make skiing here a real pleasure with very good access to lots of the ‘soft stuff’.
Great tree skiing, plenty of steeps and gullies and more mellow wide open slopes and bowls.
Also good access to day or half-day tours to complement coaching sessions in the ski area.
The week will include 5 x half days coaching and leadership or equivalent, i.e. time might be added together for a day tour; 1 day ‘free’.
This week is suitable for those fairly new to off-piste skiing and are keen to develop skills and improve confidence away from the ski areas in a non-intimidating environment and in a well-structured way.

LEVELS: 3+ to 5
Obergurgl is a high altitude resort with a great snow reputation, not too busy and easy access to a huge variety of skiing.
The closeness of the 3000 m plus peaks of the Oetztal make it a great base for day tours as well.
This week is ideal for those developing their technique to become more confident off-piste and who are planning to do multi-day hut-to-hut tours in the near future. This week will give the skills and confidence to do so!
4 x half days coaching leadership, 1 full day tour; 1 day ‘free’
Instruction in the use of safety equipment and avalanche awareness will be included.

CHILE

An amazing road-trip through the Andes of Argentina and Chile.

LEVELS: 3+ to 5

Enjoy the stunning snow of the Southern Spring, ski active volcanoes, slalom through Monkey Puzzle forests – skiing days that will lodge in your memory for years to come!
Starting with three days acclimatisation near Bariloche, we then drive north to San Martin de los Andes and the Volcano Lanin (3770 m).
We swing into Chile to the active cone of Villarica and south to Osorino to another clutch of skiable volcanoes – all cloaked in acres of spring snow!
Back to Bariloche via Villa la Angustura for a final night in a beautiful lakeside lodge.
Ski coaching will be available all the time – if the weather is bad for tours then there is plenty to do within the ski areas, both on- and off-piste.
Off-piste skiing and touring itineraries will be planned with full regard to group abilities and aspirations and to snow and weather conditions. Having our own 4x4 vehicles means we can be very flexible and quickly find the best weather and the yummiest snow.
Slopes are generally straightforward but can be quite steep; plenty of natural gully and half-pipe terrain to enjoy! Climbs on touring days can be 1300 m – it’s worth it to be fit!
