|
|
Nordic Hut-to-hut Tours: a unique and delightful tour with husky support amongst the frozen forests and 'fells' of Finland.
LEVELS: INTERMEDIATE
| |
A Nordic ski touring holiday with a hotel based ‘warm-up’ day to start, followed by five days exploring the winter landscapes of central Finland. |
| |
A North to South traverse finishing at the Iso-Syote National Park, gliding through silent forests, crossing frozen lakes and swamps and skirting the rounded ‘fells’ characteristic of this area. |
| |
The itinerary includes four days of hut-to-hut touring and one or two days of hotel/hut-based day tours; typical daily distances are 20-25 kms. Ascents and descents are small. Each two persons will have a husky and pulk for carrying personal equipment and food; each person will only need to carry a small rucksack. |
| |
Accommodation is in a 3* hotel for two nights and in privately-run forest lodges and cabins for five nights – warm, comfortable, hot showers and saunas, convivial company; great environments for 'mellowing out' after a few hours skiing! Everyone will be helping with domestic chores/food preparation at the cabins. |
COSTS INCLUDE:
7 nights half board (dinner, B&B and packed lunches) on twin/multi share basis, return transfer between Kuusamo airport and touring area, additional local bus transfers at either end of the tour, all coaching/leadership. Flights from UK not included.

| NORWAY – The Troll Trail |
Nordic Ski Touring: a relaxed ‘stride and glide’ through a wild and beautiful landscape.
LEVELS: INTRODUCTORY/INTERMEDIATE
| |
A Nordic ski tour for those who have some hut-to-hut experience (e.g. the Skarvheimen Traverse), but who are not ready (or inclined?) to ski the peaks and are looking for a relaxed Nordic touring week. Also suitable as a first hut-to-hut tour for those with suitable technique and experience. |
| |
Starting just north of Lillehammer, the itinerary follows the classic Troll-løypa, a ski, walking and mountain-bike route on the plateau to the east of and parallel to Gudbrandsdalen – a quintessential Norwegian experience! The plateau is open and rolling with good views, often to the distant Jotunheim to the West and then the shapely hills and deep valleys of the Rondane Mountains to the north. |
| |
Daily distances 12–22 kms, aggregate daily ascents 2 – 300 m. Technically straightforward skiing and rucksacks should be reasonably light. |
| |
Accommodation in staffed DNT or privately-run mountain lodges – warm, comfortable, hot showers, convivial company; great environments for 'mellowing out' after a few hours skiing! One night will be at a 'self-service' hut.. |

Nordic Tours: a South to North traverse exploring the central areas of Norway’s highest mountains, combining hut-to-hut touring days with hut-based day tours. Quintessential Norwegian mountain touring!
LEVEL: ADVANCED
| |
A traverse through the dramatic central Jotunheim, passing Norway’s highest peaks and finishing with three days based at Glitterheim for peak ascents and local exploration. Glittertind (2464m), Norway’s highest ski peak is on the list! |
| |
We will be seeking un-marked or rarely used routes as much as possible, linking quiet valleys, crossing high passes, skiing to high points and traversing small glaciers. |
| |
We should have six full and two half days of skiing in total including three days of hut-to-hut touring, three hut-based days and two half-days at the beginning and end of the week. |

| NORWAY – Jotunheim: Pines to Peaks |
|
|
Nordic Tours: a new point-to-point tour staring amongst the pine forests of Espedalen and finishing on a peak amidst the rugged grandeur of the Jotunheim.
LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE +
| |
A pioneering route finding a new approach to a well-known area. From sheltered forests, through open valley country, frozen lakes and eventually into the dramatic landscapes of the Jotunheim. |
| |
Some of the earlier days are relatively short and will allow time for local exploration and tops. |
| |
The tour then ‘builds’ with two longer days crossing more rugged terrain and culminates with a day tour option to ski one of the Jotunheim peaks as a fitting ‘finale’. |
| |
An enthralling tour for those who have already 'done' other classic Norwegian tours, who have good Nordic travelling skills and stamina and who are looking for a new challenge. |
| |
On travelling days expect distances of 15 – 21 kms and typical ascents of 50 – 400 m and up to 800 m for the optional peak on the last day. |
| |
Accommodation at DNT staffed and 'self-service' mountain lodges – so your sack never gets too heavy! Two nights in very comfortable 3* 'hoyfjellshotell'. |
